Catching Up With The G-Fours
Performing at numerous venues and events across the Ann Arbor area, The G-Fours have continued their quest to share music and have fun at all costs. Past appearances include the Ann Arbor Summer Streets Thursday Night Music Series, Michigan Medicine Gifts of Art Music Series at the University of Michigan Medical Center, Bromley BestFest 2023, and the Ann Arbor VA Hospital. Additionally, they have been incredibly fortunate to connect with the MakeShift Art Gallery in Ann Arbor (407 East Liberty St.) where they have been invited to perform on four separate occasions. At their most recent appearance, they were joined by Cheryl Dawdy, of the internationally acclaimed singing group, the Chenille Sisters, to perform Cheryl’s hauntingly beautiful original song, “Wildbird.” Sonya’s daughter, Sarah Lewis, arranged the string accompaniment. The G-Fours eagerly look forward to ongoing collaborations with Cheryl and the wonderfully creative folks at the gallery.
When the weather allows it, the G-Fours remain true to their origin story, rehearsing on a weekly basis in Sonya’s supremely unglamorous garage. In the winter months, they grudgingly abandon their grungy digs in favor of the warmer but less resonant comfort of the living room. No matter the time or location, jokes are told, loud laughs are had, the occasional bottle of wine is shared, great music takes shape, and, without fail, fun happens.
The G-Fours delight in playing a wide variety of musical selections and styles ranging from rock to folk to tangos to classical and beyond. They are just as excited to read through all of Beethoven’s string quartets (a project they have embarked upon this year) as they are to play the Beatles’ Eleanor Rigby, the Eurythmics’ Sweet Dreams Are Made of This, Thomas Dolby’s classic She Blinded Me With Science (SCIENCE!), or absolutely anything written or arranged by the Danish String Quartet.
The G-Fours look forward to entertaining audiences across the Ann Arbor area in the months and years to come. See you soon and May The Fours Be With You!
The G-Fours light up A2 Summer Streets
The G-Fours were thrilled to participate in the the first ever Ann Arbor Summer Streets Thursday Night Music festival organized by Matthew Altruda. We played outdoors on the corner of William and Main Streets for over two hours from a set list that included popular songs, Latin dances, light classical numbers, and even some Guns N’ Roses for good measure (we are unabashedly eclectic). We were extremely grateful to everyone who came out to hear us on a perfect July evening. All of the generous tips we received were donated to Food Gatherers, Washtenaw County’s food bank and food rescue program.
